Public Administration
Public Security Administration

The study programme allows gaining an interdisciplinary knowledge and skills related to:

  • familiarity with the constitutional system of state institutions and understanding their role in the administration structure of both Poland and other European Union countries,
  • analysis of security issues on local, regional, national and global scale,
  • familiarity with and implementation of law as regards security issues,
  • familiarity with the objectives and operating mechanisms of the various institutions responsible for national and international security as well as their cooperation,
  • using negotiation and mediation techniques applied by public security institutions.

 

Public Administration
Self-Governmental Administration and Public Finances

The course prepares the graduates for the work at all levels of self-government by providing them with the knowledge and skills related to:

  • micro- and macroeconomics, fundamental for understanding global, regional and local economic development mechanisms;
  • traditional and modern views on and methods of managing business organisations, administration bodies, public institutions and non-profit organisations;
  • regional and local policy;
  • specific issues of managing infrastructure, with emphasis on infrastructure of local self-government;
  • specific issues of local finances, including managing the budget of regional self-government;
  • law;
  • regional self-government correspondence, also in foreign languages;
  • preparation and implementation of structural aid programmes for developing regions and communities;
  • other issues directly or indirectly connected with territorial self-government.

 

Economics
Economics of Logistic Processes

The study programme allows gaining a thorough knowledge and skills related to logistic processes that are the service processes supporting achievement of a business organisation's main objective, which is to fully meet the customer's needs. The acquired competences refer in particular to:

  • analysis and assessment of economic logistic processes - the physical flow of goods, transportation, storage, information systems, quality, security, infrastructure, costs and similar issues,
  • analysis and design of a strategy for the supply chain,
  • implementation of logistic innovations,
  • functioning of logistic centres and networks in both national and international dimension
  • using IT systems in logistics,
  • managing relations with suppliers and recipients,
  • quality assurance and ecological management of waste and energy resources.


Economics
Entrepreneurship in Investigation and Security of People and Property Businesses

The study programme allows gaining a thorough knowledge and skills necessary for running one's own business in the field of investigation services, security of people and property services or business intelligence. The acquired competences refer in particular to:

  • organisation and operations of microenterprises and small and medium enterprises,
  • conducting investigative activities,
  • cooperation in designing plans of property protection,
  • functioning of physical and electronic systems used for ensuring people and property security.

Economics
Managerial Economics

The course aims to satisfy the demand from local and regional organisations for young and well-qualified finance specialists, particularly at the intermediate level of management.

The curriculum, apart from the practical aspects of preparation for the professional career, provides for the students' overall development by introducing issues from the field of humanities.

The graduates will be equipped with the knowledge and skills related to:

  • objective evaluation of finances of an enterprise;
  • principles of obtaining and employing financial means to enable maximizing market value of assets;
  • identification of alternative sources of financing;
  • effective management of cash, stock and dues to maintain cash flow;
  • evaluation of material and financial investment effectiveness;
  • adjusting financial operations and reports to the demands and obligations towards the national budget and local government budget.


Economics
Economic Entrepreneurship

The course prepares young entrepreneurs to found their own companies capable of operating in a competitive market associated with the coming accession to the European Union. It is hoped that the new firms will stimulate the local economy.

The graduates will be equipped with the knowledge and skills related to:

  • micro- and macroeconomics, management and organisation of companies;
  • law and administration;
  • general issues of economic history and geography, philosophy, ethics, democratic institutions;
  • sociology and psychology in the extent necessary for recognition and shaping personality, social relationships in a small and medium-sized firm, and local and regional communities;
  • issues essential for active participation in economic life in conditions of increasing home and foreign competition such as foreign language, business correspondence, IT in management, administrative procedures including tax, wage and insurance accounting in a small and medium-sized firm, market analysis, financial analysis, modern marketing techniques, negotiating, interpersonal communication, savoir-vivre, psychological and artistic techniques in advertising, personal appearance.


Economics
Economics of tourism

The course prepares the graduates to take up managerial posts in tourist enterprises, organizations and institutions operating in Poland and abroad as well as running own tourist and recreation business. It also enables continuing education at second cycle studies.
The graduate will be equipped with the knowledge and skills related to pursuing the career of an economist in the tourist sector referring to:

  • making rational decisions in a company,
  • applying basic categories of market economy in micro- and macroeconomic scale as well as interpreting he problems of business practice, especially on tourist services market,
  • analyzing information crucial for making decisions and supporting them with up-to-date IT tools,
  • applying accounting methods, preparing financial reports,
  • using marketing strategies and tools in tourist business,
  • understanding and applying strategies and methods of managing businesses and tourist organizations, both national and international,
  • human resources management,
  • quality management in tourism,
  • knowledge and ability to apply legal regulations and to combine economic and legal knowledge in tourism,
  • organization of tourist activities and various form of tourist events,
  • analyzing relationships between tourist market and the state as regards social, political and economic conditions,
  • interpreting changes occurring in the local and regional environment significant for tourist businesses,

The Institute of Applied Informatics

The Institute offers 4-year full-time and part-time undergraduate programmes leading to a B.Sc. (Eng.) degree.

Computer Science

  • construction and operating local and wide area networks
  • programming languages currently in use (C, C++, HTML, Java, Flash, Microsoft .Net)
  • using appropriate software and identify the needs of economic entities at pre-IT-implementation stages
  • employing software for creation of graphic and multimedia products
  • solving IT implementation problems of small and medium-sized economic entities by identification of their needs, designing, programming and testing computer systems.

Specializations are chosen after the second year of study.

The graduates will be specialists in design, construction and operating local and wide area networks as well as in programming in several programming languages currently in use (C, C++, HTML, Java, Flash, Microsoft .Net). Special attention is paid to the practical operation of computer equipment. Students' individual preferences for various types of software are taken into account with emphasis on adaptability to newly developed software and its upgrades. It is assumed that in their local communities the graduates will become the pioneers of social transformations based on universal access to information.

Due to the fact that the professional practice will take place in a typical business organisation, the students can learn the principles of market behaviour as well as incorporate their own ideas for improving the organisation's activity. Support will be granted to students' own IT enterprises.

Centre for IT Education
The Centre for IT Education was founded in 2001 and its purpose is to run courses preparing for the ECDL (European Computer Driving Licence) Examination. In 1996 implementation of ECDL was indicated to the countries of Central and Eastern Europe as one of the steps in adaptation procedures before joining the UE. The initiative was approved of by the Council of Europe and incorporated into the set of measures leading to emergence of the Global Information Society in Europe. The courses are offered to firms, students and residents of Elbląg and the region.

Pedagogy

Early Education

The study programme graduates are creative teachers with a vast knowledge and practical skills, qualified for work in kindergartens and forms I - III of primary schools. The graduates' characteristics comprise the following:

  • knowledge of methods, forms and didactic means as well as the ability to skilfully and optimally apply these in the teaching - learning process,
  • familiarity with the core curriculum, ability to interpret it and design one's own teaching programme,
  • ability to design didactic - educational activities and readiness to accept responsibility for their conducting and outcomes,
  • competences referring to diagnosing and stimulating the learner's mental, physical, social and emotional development,
  • ability to assess one's own performance and willingness to constantly work on one's own development - cognitive and creative activity,
  • ability to effectively communicate with the learners and their parents,

Pedagogy

Protective - Educational Pedagogy and Family Support

 

The aim of the study programme is to prepare students for protective and educational work with children, adolescents, adults and families, granting the qualifications needed for the following positions:

  • educator in protective-educational institutions, both school institutions (after-school club, boarding house) and non-school institutions of this type,
  • educator in supportive institutions such as community day care centres of various types,
  • educator in intervention institutions (emergency shelters), educator in socialising institutions (children's homes),
  • school counsellor,
  • family assistant.

English Philology - English Teacher

The graduates will be teachers of English qualified for work in every type of primary and secondary schools. They will be able to combine theoretical knowledge related to their specialty and practical skills necessary for realization of teaching and educative activities in different types of schools.

English Philology - Foreign Languages for Business

The aim of the programme is to prepare competent and linguistically proficient employees in both family-run and international businesses as well as in administrative organisations, foundations, service industry and public institutions.

The following are the graduate's main skills and abilities:

  • fluency in English,
  • psychological and social knowledge,
  • basic knowledge referring to economic issues,
  • very good command of German,
  • practical skills referring to the English and German business and legal language as well as the ability to handle business correspondence in both languages,

Philology
Philology - Applied Linguistics – English and German

The study programme allows gaining a thorough knowledge and skills related to:

  • fluency in English and a very good command of German,
  • knowledge of literature, culture and history of English and German speaking countries,
  • linguistics,
  • intercultural communication, including the ability to identify cultural differences and similarities as well as recognise the phenomena of ethnocentrism, xenophobia, auto- and hetero-stereotypes,
  • using modern information and communication technologies, with emphasis on their practical application in the chosen specialisation,
  • self-improvement and perfecting work-related skills.

Additionally, depending on the specialisation chosen in the second semester of studies, the graduate profile is characterised by:

  • theoretical knowledge referring to translation as well as practical skills as regards translating both non-specialist and specialist texts in three languages (Polish, English, German) - specialisation: translation,
  • knowledge concerning selected aspects of economy and law, practical linguistic skills in English and German business and legal language, competences in handling business correspondence in both languages as well as organising business meetings and conferences, knowledge of mediation and negotiation techniques - specialisation: business communication.

Polish Philology - Journalism

The aim of the programme is to prepare the graduates to work as a journalist in the mass media. In the course of study, the student becomes familiar with the basics of press law, learn to edit texts, become acquainted with various journalism genres and gain the necessary knowledge concerning press, radio and Internet journalism.

The study programme is targeted at those who are interested in employment in:

The competences acquired:

  • designing and realizing didactic - educational work in special purpose school and education centres, special needs schools, integrated classes,
  • functional diagnosing of mentally disabled children/learners,
  • conducting revalidation classes with mentally disabled children in special needs education institutions,
  • application of both traditional and modern forms and methods of educational, therapeutic and rehabilitative activities in the work with mentally disabled children,
  • effective communication with children/learners and their parents,
  • cooperation with teachers, educators of special needs groups and other specialists involved in psychological and educational assistance,
  • conducting sociotherapeutic classes in all institutions,

Logopaedics and Pedagogic Therapy

The competences acquired:

  • logopaedic diagnosing, including screening tests which allow establishing children's/learners' speech condition,
  • analysing diagnostic research and constructing speech therapy programmes for the diagnosed children/learners,
  • conducting speech therapy classes as well as providing advice and consultations for learners and parents with reference to stimulation of learners' speech development and elimination of disorders,
  • undertaking, in cooperation with parents, prophylactic measures which prevent emergence of disturbances in verbal communication,
  • cooperating with teachers, educators of special needs groups and other specialists involved in psychological and educational assistance,
  • keeping proper records of the prophylactic - diagnostic - therapeutic activities as well as ensuring appropriate organisation and improvement of one's skills,

Civil Engineering

The graduate will be fully prepared to manage construction of all types of building structures, cooperate in designing public utility, industrial and communal structures, organize production of building elements, supervise construction activities. The graduate is qualified to take up a post in construction companies, construction supervision firms and in local and state administration institutions involved in issues of architecture and construction. The course enables continuing education at second cycle studies.

Machine Technology and Operation

The course aims at preparing graduates to find employment in various areas of machine and related industries. The graduate will be qualified to take up an engineering post as a technologist, member of production management team, machine and device user, machine repair specialist. Employment is also available in business, administration and education at posts which require technological and IT qualifications. The gained knowledge enables setting up own business as well as continuing education at second cycle studies. The graduate will be equipped with the knowledge and skills referring to:

Automotive Electromechanics Engineering

The graduate will be qualified to find employment in various sectors of automotive industry, particularly in car service and diagnostic centres. A specialist capable of combining the operation of mechanical, electric and electronic systems as regards both automatic control and programming is highly valued on the labour market. The foundation of education resulting from general education subjects and from core subjects covering mechanics and machine construction provides an opportunity to apply for engineering posts in various fields of machine industry and related industries.
