Crisis is a sudden loss of balance. The whole of human existence is defined by crises, the first of which is the very act of birth. Then, from the point of view of psychology, the human being passes the various development stages, each of which is associated with experiencing numerous crises, They may occur along with the commencement of school education, they often take place in the puberty period, but also all stages of adulthood may be experienced as a series of crises. Crisis accompanies the individual in the course of performing the social roles: the role of parent, husband, wife or the professional roles. The feeling of loss of a person or thing is another cause of crisis. Overcoming a crisis need not always be negative, destructive for an individual's personality. It may have a positive effect and contribute to development, to inner growth.

A human being, however, is not only defined by the psychological dimension. The full image of an individual is contained in three dimensions of his/her functioning: biological, psychological and social as well as in the spiritual (noetic) dimension. The human being experiences crisis in all of these dimensions, but the crisis' causes, course and possible ways of overcoming are strongly related to the dimension in which it originates.

The conference aims:

-        Presentation of theoretical concepts and scientific research concerning the causes, course and overcoming of a crisis related to specific dimensions of an individual's functioning, i.e.: biological, psychological (within the framework of psychology,  pedagogy, sociology, psychiatry and others) as well as with reference to the spiritual aspect - philosophical approach, particularly anthropological, ethical and theological.

-        Presentation of the concept of crisis which may be interpreted within the framework of sciences referring to items of culture, e.g. crisis in art (history of art), crisis in politics (political sciences), crisis in literature (literary studies, theory of literature, literary criticism), crisis as interpreted by legal and economic sciences, medical sciences, etc.

-        Search for answers to questions concerning comparability, analogies in crisis experience as interpreted by various sciences. To what extent the experiences may be compared, is it possible to talk about common, comparable or even identical mechanisms of crisis, its emergence and ways of crisis overcoming.
